Most people are aware of marketing but aren’t always clear on exactly what it involves, so here’s the official academic definition from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM):

“Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably.”  

This means being client, customer or volunteer orientated regarding your ideas, market research, branding, communication, design, print and online processes in order to successfully fulfil what they expect and value.
